Sharp JX 9460 – The Greatest Printer You Can Buy

General specs- The Sharp JX 9460 printer using JX 9460 printer toner employs rather outdated laser print technology to produce average quality prints at 300 dpi at an engine speed of a terribly slow 6 pages per minute maximum. Orientation options available on the machine are landscape and portrait. A standard 250 sheet paper cassette is included with your printer investment with manual feed division for unusual paper types such as transparencies, film, labels and envelopes. 5 Standard emulations plus Epson FX 80, IBM Proprinter and IBM Graphics Printer emulation options are available on the machine. 1.0 RAM memory is also included with the printer.

Interfacing options- Unfortunately, only a very outdated connectivity option is available in the form of a Parallel port. This makes the printer highly unappealing as USB interfacing is the in-thing, with most computers not even accepting parallel ports anymore.

Optional extra’s- The printer has some optional extra’s available such as an envelope and paper cassettes, expansion memory, font cards, PostScript Emulation board and interface boards. These extra’s are really not a necessity if you do standard, everyday print jobs.

Control Panel- The control panel is not the most user-friendly one on the market with lost of buttons and lights to indicate status and to select print options. Please remember to set the printer to offline status before using any of the function keys. Some key’s have dual functions depending on the duration of time the key is pressed. Error light, lights up when any error occurs, online light when printer is online and ready to receive data. Manual light indicated manual feed mode and last but not least Data light blinks in case of printer waiting for feed command.

Power save mode- The printer comes with fantastic power saving mode. This will be your default setting upon setup with an option to turn it off completely. Should the printer receive no data from the connecting computer or no key is pushed for specific pre-set time the printer will slip into the power save mode. The purpose of the feature is to reduce power consumption by reducing fusing unit temperatures.

Paper compatibility- The printer is very fussy when it comes to paper size compatibility and will only accepted letter, A4, envelope, label, transparency and legal sizes. Envelope sizes accepted by the printer are International C5, DL, Business and Monarch. Steer clear from envelopes with any attachments such as strings, tabs, snaps or even windows as they have the potential of causing incredible damage the printer. Use only manufacturer approved transparencies. It is important to adjust your density when using transparencies. Just be sure to use JX 9460 printer cartridge .

Optional font card- The optional font cards contains a range of fonts not included with the device. The process of loading fonts onto the printer is as easy as pie, just insert the card in allocated slot while on and data lights on device are off and you are ready to go. Erratic prints and hardware errors may occur when inserted during printing process or while online.

Toner- The Sharp JX 9460 toner has an impressive print capacity of 3 000 pages. Toner prices range between US$89.00 and US$ 199.00. In general the machine is a good investment when considering quality and print capacity.
