Sharp UX CD 600 – A Worthy Office Tool
Introduced to the market in 2003 but no longer being manufactured, the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX CD600 printer toner cartridge is what you wanted if you were looking for a combination fax machine, text-only copy machine, two-line expandable multi-user phone console and answering machine.
The unit was targeted at the SOHO market, with the emphasis on the HO portion of that particular acronym (Home Office). Several thousand UX-CD 600 Communications Centers are still in daily operation, so Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner is still available, either from Sharp or from non-OEM suppliers of toner.
The copier function can be set to run up to 99 copies. This is somewhat strange considering that the paper tray can only handle half that amount. Copy quality at 392 lines per inch resolution is acceptable. Some users find the 50 sheet maximum input paper tray to be too small.
The input paper tray has a 50 sheet maximum, which some users find is annoyingly little, but it surprisingly has an automatic feed tray that can handle up to 10 pages and letter as well as legal size (81/2′ X 13′) paper. The copier function can be set to run up to 99 copies, which is kind of weird given that the paper tray can only handle half that much. Copy quality isn’t bad, at 392 lines per inch resolution.
This is an old enough unit that it includes a phone with a hard line cord that connects to the unit. The dial pad is on the handset. A wireless handset with a remote charger is also included. The center is capable of handling up to eight cordless handsets, according to the manufacturer’s product description. But keep in mind: this is only a two-line system. Presumably the hardline phone has a dedicated line that doubles as the fax line. That leaves the cordless phones fighting for the one line out, doesn’t it? Make sure you’re using a UX CD600 toner cartridge.
The cordless phone and charger that comes with the Center is of exceptional quality, delivering business class vocals at ranges as long as 90 to 100 feet, depending on the type of intervening walls. It has a handy low battery light right on the handset. It delivers 8 hours of in service time without a recharge and holds a charge for 2 full days when someone gets forgetful about putting it on the charger.
There is a caller ID window. Assuming you subscribe to a caller ID you can use that and the system can handle call waiting if you subscribe to that feature as well with your phone service provider. The UX-CD600 has a duplex speaker and a speaker phone feature that enables hands-free communication. The integrated answering machine provides as much as 20 minutes of recording time, as well as multiple (8) mailboxes.
With printers and fax machines that are no longer in manufacture, replacement toner can be a worry. Thankfully, with thousands of Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Centers in use, UX CD600 cartridge is easy find, either from the OEM or from any of a number of generic replacement cartridge makers.
