Brother HL 5050 Toner A Great Home Office Companion
The Brother HL 5050 printer is another winner from Brother. There are two things that are going in the right direction for this printer.
The first is it being cheap which means its affordable. The second is its small footprint. This makes this printer an excellent choice for small workspaces and shallow pocket enterprises. It excels at outputting monochrome prints at high speeds. This printer can also print on both either sides of a sheet. The network options built into this printer make it easy for it to be hooked up to an existing network.

The Brother HL 5050 comes standard with a 250 sheet tray in its base. There is another tray at its front panel which holds another 50 sheets. This can either be used as a secondary tray to either feed envelopes. You can even stack them high this is one attractive feature if you print lots of envelops. However the printer does not have a rear exit for the paper so there are chances that your paper will come out a bit creased at the edges.
I did notice however that there isn’t a rear exit available for the printer so chances are that the paper will be creased. This is probably a rare printer at this prince that has a built in duplexer. If you want to increase the paper holding capacity of this printer you can add two more trays. Each tray can hold up to around 250 sheets of paper each.
There is also a 150 sheet output bin and right besides that there is a control panel with two buttons. There area also four lights but an LCD screen is missing. However not having an LCD doesn’t make life difficult. It’s easy to input network parameters via the provided buttons. The booklet that comes along with the printer is colorful and well designed which makes attaching the printer easy. Troubleshooting is made easy by the guide provided in PDF format in the CD-Rom. This printer can output excellent quality text that is both crisp and sharp thanks to the Brother HL 5050 Toner Cartridge. However we did notice a few oddities in a few of the characters. Line art and other types of light graphics printed out perfectly. The printer has excellent monochrome text capability which is what really sets this laser printer apart.
We found changing the HL 5050 printer toner to be easy and well documented. You just located the drum assembly located in the front. However the printer comes company fitted with a standard size Brother HL 5050 Printer Cartridge which should give you a live of 3000 pages. If you want to save some money you can purchase a larger capacity cartridge by shelling out an extra $100. This larger one will last you for 700 pages.
